Bandit Lover

I scan the horizon
For a different explanation.
Morning cold
Sting of wind-whipped mane
Breath caught up
Silence and hoof-thunder.
Splinters of dreams
More real than day
Redolent of leather and dust
Cut hieroglyphics
Into my heart.
Endless stretch of plains
Trees mirrored in lake
Whirl of desert colors.
Part of me never owned,
Mourned forever.

Gift of a bandit lover.

This should be further published. It sums the feelings of every girl/woman I have ever known.
